MED-ENEC Kick-Off Workshop (Novotel, Brussels, Belgium)

The MED-ENEC project has successfully held its Kick-Off workshop in Brussels/Belgium on the 7th of October 2010.
Officials from the EU Commission and the ENPI South countries as well as the MED-ENEC experts were present to discuss the goals, latest developments and achievements of the project. After the successful MED-ENEC I project (2006-2009), this Kick-Off workshop officially launched the second phase, which will continue until December 2013.
All participants of the workshop contributed to the active discussions and exchanges of experiences. It was especially stressed that in addition to the planned objectives, the project is also following a demand driven approach and is ready to respond to specific issues raised by the beneficiary countries and to provide tailored solutions/expertise accordingly. Several beneficiary countries expressed their demands for support during the workshop.
MED-ENEC is funded by the European Union (five million Euros) to increase the use of Energy Efficiency measures and Renewable Energy systems in the construction sector in Southern and Eastern Mediterranean countries. Apart from policy advice and business development, special emphasis is placed on the support of large building programmes to enable them to act as multipliers of climate friendly technologies and measures. This includes activities for increasing the knowledge about new construction and technical building equipment technologies, highlighting their importance, showing their practical feasibility, and promoting their adoption and development. The project covers all ENPI South countries.
The MED-ENEC project is operated by a consortium led by GTZ International Services and the further members ADEME (France) and ECOFYS (Netherlands).
